WashU Public Health has an array of academic programs that are designed to foster education and contributions to public health. From specialized concentrations in both the principles and practice of public health, to programs that prepare students to become independent investigators and leaders in the field. Through hands-on research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to health equity and social justice, our students gain the knowledge and skills needed to drive change locally and globally.

Master of Public Health

We prepare students to succeed in public health across the profession. Students choose from five concentrations: epidemiology and biostatistics, global health, health policy analysis, mental and behavioral health, and generalist. Each concentration provides a solid foundation in the principles and practice of public health, as well as advanced training in particular areas of interest.

Dual-degree programs

Accompanying our Master of Public Health (MPH) program, WashU Public Health offers dual-degree programs in collaboration with other schools across WashU. Students can focus their education across disciplines, enabling them to be leading voices in the realm of public health.

PhD in Public Health Science

The PhD program in Public Health Sciences prepares students to think critically as public health scientists, succeed as independent investigators, and understand and address public health challenges for the nation and the world. It provides hands-on research experiences and mentoring from day one in the program; a curriculum that builds methodological and analytical skills, and deep knowledge of the field’s theoretical and conceptual underpinnings, philosophy and history; and professional acculturation and network building. Graduates transition to leadership roles in academia, policy research, and public health settings to make a difference locally, nationally and globally.

Undergraduate in Public Health & Society

Public Health & Society is an undergraduate program offered within WashU Arts & Sciences and co-directed by WashU Public Health and Arts & Sciences faculty. A degree in this program provides a robust foundation for aspiring professionals in diverse fields such as medicine, business, government, non-profit advocacy and policy. The program is offered as a major and a minor.
