Sandro Galea, MD, DrPH, is WashU School of Public Health’s inaugural dean. A physician, epidemiologist, educator and writer, he most recently served for a decade as dean of Boston University’s School of Public Health.

In October 2024, then-Dean Designate Sandro Galea gave a keynote address at WashU’s annual Public Health Conference. In his talk, he detailed new directions for public health and strategies to build an exceptional School of Public Health. Galea noted his aim to build a school that leads with excellence in interdisciplinary population health science and scholarship, distinction in educational programs, and a deep commitment to local and global impact.
