This was a talk by epidemiologist and scientific communicator Katelyn Jetelina, MPH, PhD, who discussed her pioneering approach to public health communication, and her experience translating complex data for audiences online through her Substack platform, “Your Local Epidemiologist.” The talk was followed by a conversation between Dr. Jetelina and Dean Sandro Galea, and an audience Q&A.
The event was held in Clark-Fox Forum, in Hillman Hall on the Danforth Campus — and also was available online.

Katelyn Jetelina
Katelyn Jetelina, MPH, PhD, is an epidemiologist and scientific communicator. She is the co-founder of the nonprofit Health Trust Initiative, an adjunct professor at Yale School of Public Health, and former senior scientific advisor to the White House and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, Dr. Jetelina is the publisher of “Your Local Epidemiologist,” a public health newsletter that “translates” ever-evolving science to the public, reaching over 500 million views in over 133 countries. Dr. Jetelina has received numerous national awards, including recently being named a TIME100 Most Influential Person in Health. She resides with her husband and two toddlers in San Diego, California.
